DAR: Design Abstracts Retrospective

Design Abstracts Retrospective/Design ProFILES(DAR/DP), is published by Design Research Publications and distributed exclusively by ProQuest on the CSA Illumina platform. It forms a retrospective complement to Design and Applied Arts Index (DAAI), covering design journals and yearbooks published between 1900 and 1987, the year in which DAAI began, with a particular focus on titles that have not been indexed or abstracted before. The project is ongoing, with journals being indexed in their entirety from first issue, on a title-by-title basis.

The index was launched in April 2007, and titles in the initial releases have been selected because of their outstanding international coverage and breadth of scope, with articles on all aspects of applied arts, from architecture to embroidery. When complete, the index will cover at least 68 titles.

Design ProFILES is a unique resource which is included with a subscription to DAR, and consists of more than 15,000 profiles of designers, architects, craftspeople, photographers, studios and other institutions. This already makes it far and away the largest and most comprehensive dictionary of design and designers available, and the publishers expect to add a further 5,000 profiles per year.
