Materials Business File covers industry news, product and process developments, plant development and construction, international trade data, government regulations, and management issues related to industries covered by other CSA Technology Research Database (TRD) subfiles. Begun in 1985 as an alerting service, the database now serves also as a historical business/industry reference. As of 2004, its coverage has been expanded to include business and industry information across the full scope of CSA's TRD and is no longer limited to the materials processing industries.
Sources covered include over 3,000 periodicals, conference proceedings, technical reports, trade journal/newsletter items, patents, books, and press releases.

Abstract
The driving forces behind the commerical aerospace business
in 1996 were consolidation at both the supplier and OEM level,
intensifying competition, globalization, lean supply chains,
and revolutions in the design process. More than previously,
this past business cycle has triggered a more significant
downsizing of the population, both in the number of suppliers
and OEMs. Suppliers wishing to succeed in this environment
will need to develop close working relationships with their
customers to redesign their business streams, not just internally,
but across the supply chain of suppliers, distributors, and
customers. Research indicates that by leveraging the extended
enterprise, alliances earn a return on investment in excess
of 50% higher than other endeavors at the same company. |
