Polymer Library (formerly Rapra Abstracts)

 
 
Polymer Library (formerly Rapra Abstracts) is the only database in the world which is dedicated exclusively to information on rubbers, plastics, adhesives and polymeric composites. There are more than 700,000 records in the database from 1972 to the present, covering commercial, marketing, technical and academic aspects of the rubber and plastics industry.

Source material for the database is selected from more than 500 journals in a wide range of languages from 30 different countries including North America, Australia, Europe, Japan, and China. Source material is also collected from books, technical reports and trade literature. In 1994, patent information relating to rubber and plastics industries was added to the database.

Deep Indexing

ProQuest Deep Indexing: Polymer Sciencesupplements the Polymer Library with access to deep indexing for tables, figures, graphs, charts and other illustrations from the scholarly research and technical literature for selected records. Records from the database appear with searches of the Polymer Library to provide an additional path for discovery.

    The crack growth rate of styrene-butadiene rubber and acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber, under dynamic tearing conditions, was determined using a cyclic shear test applied to pre-cracked samples, before and after swelling. The degree of swelling was controlled by varying the swelling temperature and the swelling time. The crack growth rates were higher for the swollen elastomers. The influence of type of elastomer, degree of swelling, and crosslinking structure on the fatigue crack behaviour of the swollen elastomers is discussed. It is proposed that the variation of fatigue resistance in the swollen state was due to a reduction in viscoelastic energy loss and sharpening of the crack tip. 22 refs.
