MLA Enhanced on the CSA Illumina Platform

BETHESDA, Maryland (18 April 2006) - CSA has enhanced the MLA International Bibliography ( MLA ) on the CSA Illumina platform, improving the descriptor search as well as adding searchable descriptor subfields and browsable descriptor subfield indexes.

"This addresses feedback we have received since the launch of MLA on the CSA Illumina platform last year," said C. Alan Golden, Director of Arts and Humanities at CSA. "The enhancements give the descriptors far more value for an advanced user of the MLA and set a new standard for the CSA Illumina interface."

Role indicators, supplemental information about descriptors such as author dates, are still displayed alongside the descriptor but are now parsed out of the search. This results in more sharply focused descriptor searches.

MLA now also features descriptor subfields, based on the controlled vocabulary assigned to facets pertinent to that item.  These facets control the record's classification, providing subject access to it in the index. The CSA Illumina platform now supports searches of these descriptor
subfields, giving the researcher greater search specificity. In addition, browsable indexes are now available for each of the following descriptor subfields:

•  Alternate Language
•  Literary Technique
•  Scholarly Tool
•  Author
•  Literary Theme
•  Source
•  Folklore
•  Literature Topic
•  Specific Language
•  Genre
•  Location
•  Specific Literature
•  Influence
•  Publication Type
•  Subject Author
•  Journal Name
•  Scholar
•  Subject Work
•  Language
•  Scholarly Approach
•  Linguistic Topic
•  Scholarly Theory
