CSA Contributes to New Summa Initiative

AARHUS, DENMARK (29 August 2006) -- CSA has entered into a collaborative arrangement to provide data resources for Summa, a new integrated search system developed by the State & University Library of Denmark.

Summa is a high-tech search system developed collaboratively by librarians, IT-developers, and usability experts. Designed for today's experienced and self-sufficient user, the system integrates the newest Web 2.0 open source indexing and search technology with traditional library knowledge and resources. The search experience provides users with highly targeted results from a vast series of resources specifically available to the user of an academic library.

CSA is providing extensive access to its proprietary data to the Summa project, including its bibliographic records as well as its Discovery Guides and Open Access publications.

"The contribution of CSA records will allow Summa users to accurately pinpoint searches to the article level," said Helle Lauridsen, CSA Technical Manager, Europe. "The Summa system can take advantage of the well researched, well structured CSA data and indexing. CSA, in turn, benefits from access to the innovative vision of the Summa team."

"The present arrangement of extended use of the structured data from CSA in the search interface, Summa, is the first of an envisioned series of projects following the signing of a ‘Letter of Intent for Strategic Cooperation' between the two institutions," said Birte Christensen-Dalsgaard, Director of Development, State & University Library. "The objective is to capitalize on the strength of the two institutions to provide innovative, relevant, and sustainable information solutions to the end user."

CSA and the State & University Library of Denmark have had an extensive relationship of collaboration to serve the needs of Danish researchers. The library is a long-standing subscriber to CSA proprietary databases such as the Aquatic Sciences & Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) Database and the CSA Biological Sciences Database. It also uses the CSA Illumina platform as a delivery vehicle to its users for databases from publishers such as the Modern Language Association (MLA) and SAGE Publications. The State & University Library of Denmark uses Ulrichsweb.com and Ulrichs Serials Analysis System from CSA to administer its serials holdings and has served as a Beta-test site for MultiSearch, the federated search solution from CSA.

Named as an EContent "Top 100" company for 2005, CSA serves as a guide to researchers to facilitate their effectiveness by enabling and expediting discovery, aiding the management and organization of quality information, and providing tools to assist in its subsequent dissemination. CSA specializes in publishing and distributing in print and electronically 100 bibliographic and full-text databases and journals in four primary editorial areas: natural sciences, social sciences, arts & humanities, and technology. MultiSearch, Ulrich's, COS Funding Opportunities, Community of Scholars, and PapersInvited are also available through CSA. A privately held company, CSA is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, with offices throughout the U.S. as well as in such locations as Australia, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom. Researchers in more than 4,000 institutions in 80 countries use CSA's information resources. CSA has been a leader in publishing and an innovator in the information field for over 30 years. www.csa.com
