New Technology Database Now Available on IDS

Database provides coverage of a broad range of technology and engineering disciplines

BETHESDA, Maryland, USA (26 January 2004) -- Researchers now have access to a wide variety of technology and engineering research material with the release of the new CSA Technology Research Database. Delivered through CSA’s award-winning Internet Database Service platform, this multi-disciplinary file provides the most comprehensive and current coverage of the relevant serial and non-serial literature available today. The file contains more than 5.5 million records, is updated biweekly, and features backfiles to 1962.

Three area-specific components of the new CSA Technology Research Database are also available separately -- CSA Materials Research Database with METADEX, CSA High Technology Research Database with Aerospace and CSA Engineering Research Database.

“Our new technology database represents a significant resource to anyone doing research across a broad number of disciplines from space science to earthquake engineering,” said Matt Dunie, president of CSA. “It provides access to unique resources not covered by other databases that are essential for researchers in these fields.”

Significant features of the new database include:

  • Common indexing and removal of duplicates –multiple subfiles provided in each database are searchable with a single search, with no records duplicated among the results.

  • Journal coverage – the database includes coverage of hundreds of core journals not indexed in other engineering databases.

  • Controlled vocabulary -- all records are indexed using a controlled vocabulary and searchable thesauri.

  • Classification codes -- each record is assigned a classification code making it retrievable by subdiscipline (e.g. forensic engineering or mathematics/computation).
CSA, a Cambridge Information Group company, is a leading publisher of bibliographic databases and print journals used by more than 4,000 research institutions worldwide.
